Mary L Mooney Summer Fun Fund
The BH-BL/Mary L Mooney Summer Fun Fund is a scholarship established in 2010 in memory of Mary L Mooney, a former BH-BL student, physical education teacher, and a founding director of the BH-BL Summer Recreation program.
Mary first ran the program at a time when the fee was only $5/summer! If a child couldn’t afford the fee, she would use soda machine profits to make sure all who wanted to join could be in the program. She also asked some parents that could easily afford more to chip in some extra money. She “borrowed” school buses from various elementary schools to run swim programs at Brown’s Beach and the Ballston Spa Village pool before the High School pool became a reality.
